What is a TFSA?
A Tax-Free Savings Account lets your investments grow and be withdrawn completely tax-free. You don’t get a tax deduction for contributing (unlike an RRSP), but you never pay tax on the growth.
How much TFSA room do I have?
Room started accumulating the year you turned 18, but no earlier than 2009 (when TFSAs began). This tool estimates your total room from your birth year; your exact room — which reflects past contributions and withdrawals — is on your CRA My Account.
Can I re-contribute money I withdraw?
Yes — any amount you withdraw is added back to your contribution room, but only on January 1 of the following year. Re-contributing too soon can cause an over-contribution penalty.
